Stéphane André,
Master Trainer, owner, has launched Espace Pilates Gym
after an extensive career in dance and movement training.
Born in France, Stéphane was awarded a scholarship to the
San Francisco Ballet School at the Lausanne Competition in
1988. In 1989, he moved to NYC to dance with the Joffrey
Ballet and the following year, arrived in Montréal.
He
continued to dance professionally until 2005 with such
renowned companies as Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, the
Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Oregon Ballet Theatre, and the
Minneapolis Dance Theatre where he was Choreographer in
Residence for three years.

Stéphane first discovered Pilates 17 years ago under the
guidance of Cathy Grant; her work saved his career from
chronic knee pain. From 2000 to 2002, Stéphane also studied
in New York with Susan Hefner and Irene Dowd, recognized
worldwide for their work in neuro-muscular rehabilitation.
He maintains contact with them, continuing to study under
their tutelage.
In 2002, Stéphane decided to combine all that he had learnt
and jumped into a new career. He became a Pilates
instructor. In 2003, he was invited by Master Trainer Moira
Merrythew to join the elite team as Instructor Trainer of
Stott Pilates, thus becoming the first French instructor
trainer.

"Espace was born out of the passion for movement and
my belief in the importance of training the mind to keep
it sharp. And my need to share this knowledge. Like so
many others, I had to relearn how to deal with my body
after dancing. Injuries have taken a toll but my passion
remains. Pilates, Yoga, physical conditioning and dance
all share the need for the connection of mind and the
body… and, of course, having some fun while doing it."
